Our Story
About Vessel & Kiln
花瓶
Vessel & Kiln was born from a deep appreciation for the artistry and heritage of Japanese ceramics. We believe that every vintage piece tells a story — of the artisan who shaped it, the kiln that fired it, and the generations who treasured it.
Our collection spans centuries and styles: from the rustic, earth-toned beauty of Bizen and Shigaraki stoneware to the vivid palettes of Kutani and Satsuma porcelain. Each piece is carefully sourced from antique markets, estate sales, and private collections across Japan.
「一期一会」
One encounter, one opportunity
Each piece in our collection is unique. Once sold, it cannot be replaced.
Our Commitment
- Authenticity: Every piece is carefully examined and described with honest assessments of condition, age, and provenance.
- Care in Shipping: Each vase is individually wrapped with traditional Japanese packaging techniques and shipped in custom protective casing.
- Knowledge Sharing: We provide detailed information about the ceramic traditions, kilns, and artistic techniques behind each piece.
Japanese Ceramic Traditions
Japan is home to some of the world's oldest and most refined ceramic traditions. The "Six Ancient Kilns" of Japan — Bizen, Seto, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigaraki, and Tamba — have been producing pottery for over 800 years.
From the intentional imperfections of wabi-sabi aesthetics to the technical brilliance of Arita porcelain, Japanese ceramics embody a philosophy where form, function, and beauty are inseparable.
