Antique Hungarian Kalocsa Embroidery Eyelet Scalloped Doily Linen Cotton White

This is an antique Hungarian Kalocsa embroidery, or Ukrainian embroidery, a cheerful and lovely small embroidered cross from France. It is a handmade tray cloth, a linen mat with a very elaborate scalloped rim. The open cutwork decoration features continuous open circles around the rim/edge. The eyelet embroidery, which allows light to pass through, is fresh and cool. The edging, stitched with fine thread, is double, elaborate, and strong. The embroidery features dense and plump hand-stitched floral motifs of traditional craftsmanship, including red and pink carnations, blue forget-me-nots, small purple flowers, yellow and orange lilies/crocuses, orange campanulas, and burgundy/bordeaux buds/berries. This is a charming small piece with a strong presence, where open cutwork and needlework bring brightness and joy. It uses vivid colors with high brightness and saturation. The base is a bright, clean, mellow white/ecru. The fabric shows slubs, is smooth and soft, with a good amount of body and crispness. The material of the fabric is probably cotton, or linen, or perhaps a blend of cotton and linen (métis). The fine stitching thread has a faint sheen and may be linen, etc. The approximate size is 5.79 inches x 5.51 inches. It weighs approximately 5.6g. The thread ends are neatly finished, and the back is also beautiful. There are no stains, dirt, scratches, or other damage; it is in very clean condition. However, as it is a handmade piece that has aged, please excuse any small oversights.
