Nanny Still Glass Pitcher Vase Copper Sleeve Emerald Green Mid Century - 1

Nanny Still Glass Pitcher Vase Copper Sleeve Emerald Green Mid Century

$383.97

This is a very rare vintage glass pitcher (jug) designed by Nanny Still, a master who built the golden age of Finnish design in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Her works are permanently housed in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York, but the number of pieces distributed in Japan is extremely small, and art pieces that combine glass and metal (copper) like this one are extremely rare. This piece is packed with the iconic techniques she favored during that period. The vibrant and deep emerald green hand-blown glass, combined with a rugged, aged copper sleeve, creates a powerful combination characteristic of the Mid-Century period (Brutalism style), which is the main highlight. The three-dimensional form, where the glass bulges out like a round cushion from the punched copper windows, casts beautiful shadows around it with light. It can be used as a pitcher or simply placed by a window or on a shelf. The manufacturer is “Riihimäen Lasi” or “RAAK”. This is a vintage item from approximately 50 to 60 years ago. The copper sleeve shows tasteful discoloration, dullness, and fine scuffs due to age, but these are good textures unique to vintage items.
