Shigaraki Ware Tanuki Motif Deformed Flower Vase Ikebana Art Pottery
This is a Shigaraki ware tanuki (raccoon dog) motif creative flower vase. It is a deformed tanuki vase crafted with original sensibility while inheriting the tradition of Shigaraki ware. The rough, coarse soil characteristic of Shigaraki, the calculated distortion, and the charming yet somewhat wild tanuki form attract viewers. This motif is also very popular as a good luck charm for business prosperity and good fortune due to the pun “tanuki” (他を抜く), meaning to surpass others. It is produced in Shigaraki. Its features include delicate spatula work that expresses the tanuki's fur. The condition is that it has been carefully stored for ornamental purposes. Due to the nature of the artwork, there are soil grains, small bumps, and firing irregularities, but these are all part of the work's character and are not cracks or chips. The size is 13.58 inches in height, 11.81 inches in body diameter, and 5.12 inches in mouth diameter.
