Meiji Era Pottery Vase Bottle Oni Mask Hawk Sparrow Applique Art Object
This is a rare Meiji era craft pottery item, a cylindrical vase or bottle adorned with applied demon masks, hawks, and sparrows. The artist and kiln are unknown. The item does not come with a box. It has been used for decades as a tea ceremony utensil and decoration. There is a small scratch on one of the demon masks shown in the 5th image, along with old small scratches and scuffs on the corners of the footrim, and general age-related dirt. The bottom appears to have been repaired or not, but it leaks slightly when filled with water, making it unsuitable as a flower vase; it should be used with an inner bottle. The approximate dimensions are: height 12.13 inches, mouth diameter 4.96 inches, width (at base) 6.06 inches, and weight 2.5 grams.
