Antique Kalocsa Hungarian Embroidery Scallop Eyelet Linen Doily Mat 2pc Set

This is a set of two antique Hungarian Kalocsa or Ukrainian embroidered linen mats, handcrafted tray cloths, purchased in France. ① [Flower shape] measures 6.30 inches x 5.79 inches and weighs approximately 5g. It features continuous open circle cutwork decoration around the rim, with eyelet embroidery that allows light to pass through. The edges are double-stitched with fine thread, making them elaborate and strong. The embroidery includes red carnations, blue forget-me-nots, small purple flowers, pink roses in various shades, and orange buds/berries. This is the only piece of its kind owned. ② [Square shape] measures 5.79 inches x 5.51 inches and weighs approximately 5.6g. It features dense and plump embroidery with traditional craft floral motifs including red and pink carnations, blue forget-me-nots, small purple flowers, yellow and orange lilies/crocuses, orange bellflowers, and burgundy/bordeaux buds/berries. Both pieces have a bright, clean, and mellow white/ecru base, possibly cotton, linen, or a cotton and linen blend (métis). The flower-shaped piece is smoother and softer with appropriate firmness and crispness. The fine embroidery threads have a subtle sheen and may be linen. The thread ends are neatly finished, and the back is beautiful. There are no stains, dirt, or damage, and both are in very clean condition.
