Christofle Silver Plated Pitcher Water Jug Mid-century Checkered Etching

This is a rare vintage silver pitcher (water jug/jug) from Christofle, France's finest silverware brand. The bottom bears the official hallmarks of the traditional “scale mark” and “chess knight (horse) mark,” which Christofle used only for its highest quality (first-grade) silver-plated products between 1935 and 1983. It has a futuristic and elegant form that highly merges straight and curved lines unique to the mid-century period. In addition to its beautiful proportions, which widen from the sharply cut spout to the bottom, the intricate checkered pattern etching on the bottom beautifully diffuses light. This is truly a “work of light” that exudes an overwhelming presence just by being placed on a table. Regarding the condition: As a vintage item, there may be fine scratches and slight discoloration (sulfidation peculiar to silver) due to age, but there are no noticeable major scratches or dents, and it is in very good condition considering its age. The black circle on the bottom is from the manufacturing process (welding/brazing marks) and is not a scratch or peeling of the plating. The rim of the inner bottom shows a faint discoloration (darkening) peculiar to silver due to age, but this does not affect its use.
