This is a bamboo handicraft flower basket with a handle, made by Shoebun Suemura. It is a glossy, dark brown bamboo basket with a handle, featuring intricate ajiro-ami (wickerwork) and openwork weaving, resembling a lacquer finish. The artist, Shoebun Suemura, was born in Osaka City in 1917. His real name was Bunzo. He apprenticed under Shoen Yamamoto (first generation Chikuryusai Yamamoto) in 1936, trained diligently, and became independent five years later. He frequently won awards at exhibitions such as the Kansai Sogo Bijutsu Exhibition and the Osaka Kogei Kyokai Exhibition. From 1962 onwards, he also exhibited at the Nitten Exhibition. From 1962 to 1971, he exhibited at the Japan Contemporary Crafts Exhibition, and from 1980 onwards, at the Japan New Crafts Exhibition. He served as an associate member of Nitten and a councilor of the Japan New Crafts Association. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 83. There is no shared box.
