Baccarat 1889 Fish Sculpture Large Vase Blue Crystal Glass 24cm 1.8kg
This is an extremely rare large vase/flower base from Old Baccarat, known as the pinnacle of French crystal. It is a large blue crystal vase, reportedly a prototype for the 1889 Paris World's Fair, boldly and elegantly shaped like a fish. It boasts a majestic height of approximately 9.45 inches and a weight exceeding 4.06 lbs, showcasing Baccarat's advanced molding techniques and artistry of the time. The deep blue glass creates lustrous shadows when light passes through, and its scales and dynamic form embody the organic beauty characteristic of the Art Nouveau period. This piece also strongly reflects Japonisme, a design that tells the historical background of how the longing for East Asian culture in late 19th-century Europe was sublimated into a work of art. Such large blue works with animal motifs are extremely rare, and opportunities for them to appear on the market are scarce. This is a highly valuable collector's item. Since this work was produced before 1936, it does not have the Baccarat stamp. Dimensions: Height approx. 9.45 inches, Width approx. 8.27 inches x 3.94 inches, Weight approx. 4.06 lbs. Condition: Although there is some fading of color due to age, it remains in very good condition considering its era. (This is an antique item).
